Playing the Field VII – Play in Progress: Environments We Build (Workshop)

The seventh edition of Playing the Field brings together researchers working on digital and analogue games and their relationship to the spaces and built environments we inhabit, imagine, and transform.
The workshop focuses on the diverse relationships between games and the built environment: from architecture, cities, and landscapes to infrastructure and mobility, environmental storytelling, spatial politics, and worldbuilding. Perspectives on sustainability, resilience, participation, and future worlds are also welcome.
The workshop will take place at the SDG+ Lab of Kassel University and is hosted by the Department of Economy of Urban and Regional Development at Kassel University in cooperation with the Department of American Studies at TU Dortmund University.
Scholars are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 500 words that outline their proposed 45-minute session, including a title and a bio statement (max. 100 words). Please send your proposals to playingthefieldvii@uni-kassel.de by November 15, 2026.
